By Month

The By Month sales report allows you to view sales totals, trends, and established sales goals, by month for the selected date range.

By Month Report

The By Month report defaults to show total sales by month, trends based on LY Comps (prior year comparisons), and sales performance based on established sales targets, for the selected date range. 

The ability to view totals, trends and target based performance, allows an operator to gain valuable insights into how their business is doing.

Overtime, these trends allow an operator to:

• Identify patterns that may help to anticipate a future need:
  • Every weekend from June to August for the past five years, Store A experiences a 50% increase in sales compared to all other months
  • Therefore, Store A may need to adjust inventory and labor needs in anticipation of higher sales during this time period next year
• Identify outliers that may need to be addressed or further investigated:
  • Store B views the trend report for July and notices a significant dip in sales for two days that have historically been high in sales
  • This alerts an operator to investigate further to identify what may have occurred to impact sales so drastically at this time (e.g. equipment failure, store not open, etc...) 
• Identify contrasts between anticipated sales (target based) versus actual sales
  • Store C views sales based on the targets they set for each month within s specified period of time, and notices that actual sales for the month of November were 40% higher than the established sales goal
  • However, actual sales for Store C, have historically been within a 5% range of the established sales goal, which would indicate that something significant impacted sales
  • This metric allows the operator to investigate what may have impacted sales to such a degree, in the hopes that they may be able to replicate this in the future 

Accessing the Report

To run the By Month report:

1. Select the reports iconwithin the bottom navigation
2. Select  By Month 
3. The report defaults to show monthly sales totals based on the selected date range
4. Select the vs Sales Goal tab to view sales compared to the goals that you set
5. Select the location icon  to select a different site to view
6. Select the calendar icon  to change the date(s)
7. Select the export icon   to export the report to a .csv file or to save it as a PDF
8. Select a monthly total to view additional details

Trends

You can also view trends based on historical sales for a specific month by selecting a total and then trend.  

To view monthly sales trend for a specific month:

1. Select a total within the By Month report to view additional details 
2. Within the details window, select Month Trend
3. The app will automatically download the last 6 years of data to ensure there are no reporting gaps when showing trend 
4. Select a month to view additional details 
   • Within details, you'll have the option to set or change sales goals
